Domestic voltage is 230 V single-phase, 415 V three-phase — different from the US 120/240 V, so current ratings for the same appliance are about half of the US figure. Is Transformer Calculator precise enough for DISCOM service-application?
For the load-sanction application, yes — DISCOM requires a kVA rating consistent with the connected load and a typical power factor (0.8 lag for industrial, 0.9 for commercial, 0.95 for residential); the tool uses those defaults and lets you override. For the actual transformer purchase specification, the vendor will ask for impedance, tap-changer configuration, and other details that go beyond sizing — those require a consulting engineer.
Why does Voltage Drop Calculator use different resistivity for copper vs aluminium?
Aluminium has about 1.6× the resistivity of copper, so for the same current and length, an aluminium cable needs about 1.6× the cross-section to achieve the same voltage drop.
